Most fitness apps guess. Nutrition GPS calculates.
Your calorie targets, your macro split, how fast you're allowed to bulk or cut, even the way your Coach talks to you — none of it is a random number pulled from a generic formula that treats you the same as a 45-year-old trying to lose 10 lbs. Here's the truth about what's actually running under the hood.
Every calorie and macro number you see is calculated using real energy-need science — the same frameworks referenced by the CDC, NIH, and ACSM — then adjusted for your exact goal: bulk, cut, or maintain. Not a flat 2,000-calorie default. Not a random deficit some app engineer picked.
But here's what we won't do: promise you'll gain exactly 1 lb of muscle a week or drop a specific number by summer. Anyone guaranteeing that is selling you a fantasy — your results depend on genetics, sleep, stress, and how consistent you actually are. What we will do is make sure the math behind your targets is never the reason you fail.
Every plan has a built-in calorie floor — a hard minimum your targets can never drop below, no matter how aggressive you try to get. You can't override it. You can't trick it. That's on purpose.
Most tracking apps will happily let you set a 1,000-calorie deficit because it's not their problem if you crash your metabolism. We built the floor in because your long-term progress matters more than a fast number on the scale this week.
When you're bulking or cutting, your targets shift at a controlled, sustainable pace — not in wild swings that wreck your energy, your training, or your consistency. Rapid shifts feel dramatic, but they're also the fastest way to fall off completely.
This isn't the exciting answer. It's the one that actually gets you to your goal instead of back to square one in six weeks.
Every time you switch from bulk to cut, or maintain to lean gain, Nutrition GPS logs it — when you started, when you switched, and why. It's your own history, always available in your profile.
This isn't a highlight reel. It's a map of every route you've taken, so you can finally see your own patterns instead of guessing why last time worked and this time didn't.
Your Coach gives you nutrition and motivational guidance based on what you tell it and real nutrition principles — not vague "you got this" energy, not a chatbot that just repeats your log back to you.
Here's what your Coach will never do:
If you have a medical condition, are pregnant or nursing, or take any medication, talk to a healthcare professional before making real changes to your diet or training.
Snap a photo or type what you ate — the AI estimates the nutrition instantly. No more logging fifteen minutes a day just to eat a sandwich.
These are estimates, not lab measurements — food varies, and you can always edit any entry to dial it in. But it's built to get you logging in seconds, not minutes, so you actually stick with it.
How your data — including your nutrition and health info — is collected, used, and protected is spelled out in our Privacy Policy. If you're in Washington, you've got extra protections under the state's My Health My Data Act, covered in a separate policy built specifically for that.
